Disconnected in a connected world!

This is an amazing time to be alive.

Technological advancements in the last 100 years make our lives so much easier and efficient to lead, than the lives of our great-grandparents.

technologyWe can travel faster, communicate real-time no matter the distance and even access information almost instantaneously.

Many of us carry our technologies with us almost everywhere we go, and if these technologies are not attached to our bodies, we’ll make sure they’re in the same room with us.

We carry our cellphones in our pockets, our hands, or on our hips, and we sleep with the device within reach. It’s almost as if the cellphone is a six-shooter and we are cowboys cast in a wild west, country western movie.

We are closer to being omniscient than any other generation before our time, yet there seems to be such a void in our knowledge.

Why?

Well to start, instead of using this wonderful technology as a learning tool, we use our devices primarily for entertainment.

We spend our waking hours liking our friend’s status on Facebook or perusing pictorial journals of our favorite pop stars on Instagram.

We follow movie icons on Twitter hoping to be one of the first to retweet something witty we just saw them post.

We stream videos from YouTube or WorldStarHipHop.com to watch the latest and greatest of what’s trending.

We play games.

Candy Crush, Bejeweled, Ruzzle, Song Pop, Angry Birds, Farm Heroes, because you beat or just got bored with Farmville 1 & 2.
…and the list goes on and on for the games we play to entertain ourselves.

Yet, there is still so much we do not do and we do not know.
…and we claim not to do these things or to know these things, because we are so busy and there just isn’t enough time!

Well, I’ve had enough of all the excuses, so here’s a list of some of the top excuses I hear on a regular basis, debunked!

Top 3 Excuses:

1. There isn’t enough time to exercise, plus I don’t even know what exercises I should do. I can’t afford a trainer.

Excuse 1 Debunked: Have you cut any of your entertainment time? Also, have you Googled, ‘Top 10 exercises to do when you don’t have time.’? Hmmm…looks like you might not even need a trainer.

2. I feel so tired all the time.  If I just had more energy, I would be able to get my life in order.

Excuse 2 Debunked: Yes, energy is life’s great differentiator, but I would make a hefty bet that you have enough energy to Google, ‘How do I get more energy?’. Funny thing is, Google will help you by guessing the rest of what you want to type as you type it. Now all you have to do is click and read. Much easier than playing Farmville 2. Besides, that game is stressful!

3. I want to eat better, but eating healthy is expensive and I don’t have time to cook.

Excuse 3 Debunked: Seriously, you want me to give you the answer to this one too? Google!

disconnectedIt’s interesting how disconnected we are in a connected world.

In 2013, excuses just don’t hold up. It really comes down to what you WANT to do and what you WANT to know.

A few weeks ago, while chatting with an acquaintance, he asked where I went on my last vacation.
Papua New Guinea.” I replied.
“Really? Why? Where is that?” he asked.
Later in our conversation he gasped when I asked, who is Honey Boo Boo and why is she famous. It’s a shame that after that conversation, I was the one who was considered uninformed. Am I?

Tell me by taking the poll:

My questions for reflection this week:
What do you really WANT to do?
What do you really WANT to know?

Are you disconnected in this connected world?
Are you disconnected from your dreams, aspirations and goals due to your own lack of self-discipline?
It’s 2013.

Excuses are futile.

Resolve to stop living at the effect of your circumstances and situations.

Resolve to stop being disconnected and connect today!

  1. This weeks inspiration reminded me of a quote I hung on my wall that said, “Excuses are monuments of nothingness. They build bridges to nowhere. Those who use these tools of incompetence, seldom become anything but nothing at all.” -Author Unknown
