Will you come to the table and eat?

Last night, I was chatting with a friend who made a statement that really stuck with me. The statement he made was, “People don’t know, what they don’t know.” This caused me to contemplate the following:

  • If people knew, what they didn’t know, would they take the time to gain the knowledge they were lacking?

It’s only been a little over 24 hours, since I’ve started to ponder and internalized this question, but I have to admit the observations I’ve made aren’t encouraging. information ageWe are all now living in what has been called the Information Age. 90% of the world’s data was produced in the last two years; the majority of which is accessible to us. Yet, our consumption of this data, doesn’t seem to be in service of gaining the valuable knowledge we so desperately need. For the first time in recorded history, this age has given almost ALL of us access to whatever knowledge we care to ingest, and use accordingly. For the first time in recorded history, every man, woman and child that has an internet connection has access to the greatest wealth of the centuries; the gift of learning. Yet, I have yet to witness any significant progress from those of us, who were not born under the label of privilege. What are we doing? What more do we need? Knowledge has been given to us on a golden platter, by way of Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com, yet we refuse to sit at the table and eat! My question for reflection this week is: Are you taking the time to acquire the knowledge you need? Over the past 24 hours, my deduction has been this:

  • The question is no longer are we being fed the knowledge we need. It’s whether, we want to come to the table and EAT!

It’s almost 2014. We live in one of the most fascinating eras ever known to mankind. Will you capitalize on this amazing opportunity? You have a choice. What will it be? I do hope you choose wisely I do hope you choose knowledge. I do hope you choose to stay inspired… after all it is a lifestyle choice!
