What you do not know can hurt you.
What you do not know can destroy you.
What you do not know can separate you from your destiny.
The lack of knowledge or refusal to use acquired knowledge can hurt, destroy and separate us from a destiny and dream we never had the opportunity to dream.
A harsh reality, but true.
Here’s what I mean.
Recently, my younger brother and I were having a conversation about Stephen Covey’s book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. He shared how the book changed his life and assisted in how he strategically placed his energy.
I could see the excitement in his face as he described what he learned.
“A successful person’s circle of influence is much larger than their circle of concern.” He shared, “I learned that I can be much more effective if I concentrate on the things in my life that I can directly influence, rather than give my mental energy to my concerns.”
Over the past couple of years, I’ve seen a dramatic and positive shift in my brother’s life. This shift was the direct consequence of knowledge.
These days, I listen to him share dreams that he wouldn’t have dreamed, if it weren’t for his initiative to acquire more knowledge.
The more I learn, the more I become engrained in the belief that the cliché phrase “ignorance is bliss” is just downright ignorant!
What you do not know can hurt you.
What you do not know can destroy you.
What you do not know can separate you from your destiny.
…but what’s worse, is to actually be completely informed, yet take no action.
Why?
Because, to have knowledge and remain inactive, sets us up for the awful side effect called regret.
“Knowledge has to be improved, challenged, and increased constantly, or it vanishes.” ~ Peter Drucker
Act on what you know!
Knowledge is POWER.
Knowledge is LIFE.
Knowledge is HAPPINESS.
Knowledge is MORE.
More potential and more dreams, than what you have today.
My questions for reflection this week are:
- Do you have a healthy hunger for knowledge?
- Are you acting appropriately on the knowledge you already have?
Here are two things to keep in mind as you reflect:
- To learn, we first must listen.
- Every person we encounter knows something we don’t know.
Take on the no-risk investment of learning, then ACT on that knowledge.
“If a man empties his purse into his head no one can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
This is the 21st century. We live in the digital age, where information is plentiful and free. Gaining new knowledge can be as simple as surfing the internet, once a day for something enlightening to read.
Make a commitment to INVEST in you. An investment like this will pay interest to you, and everyone else who benefits from your wisdom.
Knowledge is the impetus of everything and every dream.
Knowledge is INSPIRATION.
So stay inspired, it’s a lifestyle choice.
