This week marks five years since the very first post was made on Inspirational Perspective.
I can still remember sitting in my office, nervously searching my first blog post for errors. My mind was overwhelmed by the fear of what if…
What if you miss an obvious edit.
What if you misspelled a word.
What if you misused your punctuation.
What if people don’t like what you have to say.
What if you lose your job for blogging.
What if…
What if…
What if…
I was scared.
I could hear the hum of the air conditioner. Is it working?
If so, why am I sweating like this.
I was scared.
I knew I was supposed to share my voice.
I knew my purpose was to inspire.
I knew I had a passion for helping myself and other live the best life possible.
I knew publishing that first post was the action I was supposed to take. I didn’t really understand why…I just knew I had to start.
…but I was so scared!
I knew the fear wouldn’t go away, so I would have to publish that post…afraid!
…and that’s what I did.
On July 4, 2011, I published my first post to this blog, titled, “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
Guess what?
Nothing happened.
I didn’t get fired, and as a matter of fact nobody really noticed. That week my blog got three clicks and that’s because I called and begged a few people to read it.
Believe it or not, posting my first blog was the easy part.
The hard part was keeping the commitment to post every week, but I did. I posted every week from that day in 2011 all the way through 2015. (The only thing that got in my way and interrupted that streak was the joys of wedding planning before getting married on June 6, 2015.)
So here’s what facing your fears and staying committed can do.
Today, Inspirational Perspective is a publishing company, that has a Chicago based, internationally aired radio show on WVON 1690 AM, and we have over 20,000 fans on Facebook.
Believe it or not, that’s just a small part of what this blog has done for me. Inspirational Perspective has literally transformed my life.
…but this blog hasn’t just changed my life. Inspirational Perspective has transformed the lives of thousands of people across the globe.
Whether they’ve read one post, or subscribe to receive every post, I know the words in this blog can shift perspectives and change lives.
Whether they’ve listened to one radio show or tune in religiously every week, I know the words I speak over the radio waves have changed lives, because you’ve told me so.
In my opinion, there is no better way to celebrate all 5 years of Inspirational Perspective’s existence, than to share the Top 5 Blog post on Inspirational Perspective, based on what
you…the reader has chosen to read most.
To help build your anticipation, I will start with the 5th most popular post:
5. Obstacles vs. Barriers
What’s interesting about this post is nobody shares that they’ve read it. I’m not sure if the reader is embarrassed about the fact that they didn’t really know the difference between the obstacles and barriers in their life, or it was so good they forgot to share it. Either way…this post gets some major traffic. So…check it out…and share it. If you needed it, someone else does too! Don’t be that way!
4. Leave It All on the Floor!
Okay…so this is probably the one post that gets traffic it doesn’t deserve.
You mention names like Michael Jordan and John Legend in an inspirational post and you’re likely to get basketball and music fans who had no idea they were about to get a page full of motivational instruction.
Oh well…they were surprised but at least it’s safe for work…never know when the boss is walking by!
3. 3 Inspirational Lessons from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
How fitting that the third most popular blog post on this site contains three lessons from Dr. King. As you can imagine this post is get the majority of its traffic in January and February every year. Nonetheless, the lessons still work in July so if you haven’t read this post, be sure to check it out!
2. 4 Things You Should Know About Yourself, Before Even Thinking About Marriage
This post is a real shocker. I wrote this post in March of this year and within just a few months it has become the second most read post on Inspirational Perspective. It seems you all like the relationship talk…
I suppose there can be more where that came from…stay tuned!
1. Are you stopping 3 feet from GOLD?
This is your favorite and it’s also one of my favorite blog post. I don’t care who you are, we all can use a reminder about the power of persistence. This post provides just that by sharing a great story from Napoleon Hill‘s book, “Think and Grow Rich.”
Thank you all so much for your continued support! When I started this blog I said to myself, “If I could just reach one…then the work is worth it.”
I had no idea I would impact thousands!
I can’t wait to see what another 5 years will create for all of us.
Until then…stay inspired, it’s a lifestyle choice!
