Your Environment; Your Choice; Your Success

When was the last time you took an inventory of your environment?

Do the people you closely associate with…the places you frequently go…the space in which you live…or the work that you put your hands to…complement your aspirations or your goals?

Do they complement your potential?

People:

There’s a quote by Jim Rohn that deserves some thought.  He says, “Your are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Are you pulling up the average of your five closest acquaintances?
If so…how long will it be before they induce mediocrity or pull you down?

Places:

In Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich” he states, “We begin to see…the importance of selecting our environment with the greatest of care, because environment is the mental feeding ground out of which the food that goes into our minds is extracted.

Living Space:

What does your living space say about you?

Does it say dirty, busy, dusty, sticky, nasty or disorganized?
Does it say clean, efficient, effective, crisp, attractive and organized?

Whatever it says…more than likely it’s playing out in your appearance and behavior outside of your home.

“Our environment, the world in which we live and work, is a mirror of our attitudes and expectations.” ~ Earl Nightingale

Work:

Albert Einstein posed the following question:
“If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk?”

Einstein’s riddle may not always hold true, but it does have relevance.  I find it fascinating how many people believe they are just too busy to get organized.  These same people also seem perplexed by the way success seems to elude them…trouble is…they’re to busy for success too!

This week, take stock of your environment.  Ask yourself this question; does my environment enable or inhibit me?

Depending on the answer…do something about it!

This post is like a pop quiz assessment of your life! I happen to feel great passing this quiz today because I spent all day Saturday cleaning my condo, washing n waxing my car, cutting my hair, completing an important business task, and still found time to enjoy the evening. After organizing my space and breathing in the fresh air of an efficient environment, I truly relished in the feeling of short term goal accomplishment. It felt so good that I challenged myself to maintain this optimized status at all times….especially since my house was previously a mess, my car was filthy, I was poorly groomed, and with much outstanding work to do. It occured to me that the challenge of Consistency that Linal wrote about in a previous post was the key to maintaining the status of being personally optimized. Had this pop quiz been posed just one day sooner I would’ve failed miserably and felt awful lol. This post positively reinforced my commitment to stay so fresh and so clean and accomplished at all times, never letting the spotlight hit you unprepared for the million dollar moment!
